What are permanent cosmetics?
Permanent cosmetics, also called permanent makeup, micropigmentation, and dermal pigmentation, refer to the process of applying pigment into the second (dermal) layer of the skin.
Why consider permanent cosmetics?
There are many reasons to consider permanent cosmetic services, but most importantly, it restores color and definition to absent or sparse eyebrows, softly defines or dramatically accents eyes, and enhances the color and shape of the lips. Permanent cosmetics help achieve a finished appearance for timeless, effortless beauty.
Is it really permanent?
Longevity of the appearance of permanent cosmetic makeup can be affected by sun exposure, skin products, and the natural aging process. Typically the application lasts 2-3 years.
Does it hurt?
Although everyone’s pain sensitivity varies, the application of permanent makeup involves minor discomfort. Topical anesthetics are applied before and throughout the procedure.
Are the procedures safe?
Permanent cosmetics have been safely applied throughout the ages in the quest for beauty. Pigments are used in permanent cosmetics and have an extensive record of safety. Used in both medical and artistic fields for over 20 years, their safety is undisputed.
How long does a procedure take?
The length of each procedure varies; most procedures generally take 2-2 1/2 hours.
Can permanent cosmetics be removed?
No, not easily, if at all. Laser and other removal or lightening techniques have aided in removal in many cases; however, the results of these methods have not proven to be consistent.

Airbrush tanning offers a great way to get that gorgeous glow of tanned skin without the damage that comes from spending hours in the sun. You’ll get the best, longest-lasting results by making sure your skin is properly prepared for your airbrush tanning session.
Exfoliate your skin thoroughly to remove dead skin cells before treatment. This will allow the tanning ingredients to absorb into your skin so that your bronzed look lasts longer. Avoid using lotion, deodorant, perfume, or other skin products before your appointment so there will be no barrier between the tanning solution and your skin. Don’t wax or shave within 24 hours of your appointment and avoid these activities for as long as possible after your tan in order to prolong your results. If it’s raining when you head to the day spa, pack boots and an umbrella so the water doesn’t strip your tan.
At The Fountain Spa, our airbrush-tanning artist has worked with the New York Jets Flight Crew and countless beauty queens, body builders, and dance teams. For the most natural sunless tanning results around, make an appointment at our day spa by calling (201) 327-5155.

One of the most fun parts of visiting a day spa is sampling new treatments. During your next spa trip, move beyond your usual rotation of treatments and give something unexpected a try. At The Fountain Spa, we offer a great variety of unique body treatments to help you look and feel your best. Here are a few you definitely have to experience for yourself:
Seaweed Body Wrap
Body wraps are as good for you as they are relaxing. They soften your skin and encourage your body to shed toxins and excess water weight. Many clients feel slimmer and rejuvenated after a body wrap. During our seaweed body wrap, you’ll be covered from your neck to your toes in our specialized seaweed blend to draw out toxins and make your skin feel smoother and healthier. After removing the seaweed, we’ll apply a luxurious moisturizer to replenish your skin. For an even more gratifying experience, add our lymphatic drainage treatment to your wrap to boost the removal of toxins.
Heavenly Floatation Wraps
When you are desperate for a break from your fast-paced life, the perfect escape awaits you at our day spa. This treatment starts off with a light, full-body exfoliation. Next, we give you a nourishing body wrap as you float airlessly on our pressure-free water cushion. As the stress is drifting away, you’ll also enjoy a scalp massage. Our day spa offers this treatment for one- or two-hour sessions.
Mommy-to-Be Tummy Treatment
Your skin has special needs during pregnancy. Your stomach in particular needs extra attention to help you avoid stretch marks and tightness. With this special treatment, we use a sea salt scrub on the stomach to exfoliate the skin and discourage stretch marks. A leg and arm massage follows. Finally, we apply powerful stretch mark cream to your stomach. This treatment is only right for women past their first trimester.

If you have unwanted facial hair, you’re not alone. Many people struggle with this embarrassing condition. Shaving isn’t a good option for women because it can cause noticeable bumps and nicks. Tweezing is time-consuming and painful. If you’re tired of dealing with your facial hair, try waxing. The skin care team at The Fountain Spa can help you get rid of facial hair and feel confident about showing off your complexion. Here is what you need to know:
Choosing Where to Wax
At our day spa, we can treat most areas of your face where you have excess hair. We can wax hair on the chin, lip, and side of the face. We can also wax eyebrows to thin them out and help you attain the shape you want.
Preparing Your Skin for Waxing
You can minimize redness and any minor discomfort you may experience during waxing with the right preparation. Your skin should be as clean as possible on the day of treatment. The hair in the treated area should be about a quarter-inch to half-inch long to get the best results. This means you should stop tweezing or shaving about two to four weeks before your day spa appointment. Don’t book your wax for the week before your period, when your skin is likely to be more sensitive. Avoid caffeinated beverages on the day of your spa appointment.
Caring for Skin after Treatment
It’s normal to see some mild redness after waxing. Your spa technician will apply soothing lotion after treatment and offer advice for aftercare. In most cases, redness will subside after a few hours, and you’ll enjoy softer, smoother skin.
Make an appointment with The Fountain Spa and find out why we’ve been voted the Best Spa in Bergen County for seven years and counting. In addition to waxing, our day spa provides a varied menu of facials, body treatments, salon services, and more. Discover what we have to offer by calling (201) 327-5155.

This video offers tips for getting your skin ready for a bikini wax. Keep the treatment area clean and exfoliated in the run-up to your wax. If you have sensitive skin, taking an ibuprofen before your wax will control any discomfort. Don’t have a big night out the day before your wax. Any lingering alcohol in your system will boost your skin sensitivity.
